What Are Angina Chest Pains?

When our heart does not get enough blood containing oxygen, a temporary chest discomfort may occur and it is most commonly known as angina chest pain or angina pectoris. How will you determine that you really are experiencing angina chest pain? Well, if you experience pain or pressure in the middle of your chest, going to your neck, back and left shoulder or left arm then don’t ever drive yourself to the emergency room. Instead, call an immediate ambulance that will rush you to the hospital.

Angina pectoris happens when a person has coronary heart disease where there coronary blood vessels are narrowed or blocked and insufficient blood containing oxygen is supplied to the heart muscle. The pain is often felt when a person gets stressed physically, mentally and emotionally. Extreme temperatures may also trigger attack of angina chest pain. Initial intervention when having this chest pain is to take a rest to be relieved of the pain and use of nitroglycerin for faster relief. This type of angina is actually predictable and it is known to be a stable angina. If you are experiencing such a discomfort, it is best to seek your doctor’s assistance for further evaluation. An ECG or electrocardiogram and X-ray will most likely to be used as the diagnostic test.

There are also cases when even if you are at a complete rest, a sudden attack of angina chest pain occurs. This is known to be the unstable angina where the attack of chest pain will not be easily predicted. The pain felt is more severe and prolonged. Patients experiencing such discomfort should seek medical attention immediately as unstable angina should be treated as an emergency and patient should be monitored carefully at the chest pain unit. Patients with Unstable angina have an increased risk for heart attack or cardiac arrest that may lead to sudden death.

If you are think you already experiencing a heart attack, then it is best that you call for an ambulance that will take you to the hospital. Driving yourself to the hospital alone can be very dangerous. If you’re not allergic to aspirin, chew a regular tablet of aspirin to ease the pain.

Relieving My Back and Leg Pain With Support Pillows

I had injured my lower lumbar spine by lifting too much furniture, too quickly. Afterwards, I was left with the sensation of pain along my lower left side. The pain began in the back, but was concentrated along my left leg, centered in the middle of my shin.

Unfortunately, when I lay down in my bed I received no relief from the pain. In fact, lying on my regular flat mattress seemed to generate a steady supply of pain in the middle of my left shin. This prompted me to find a comfortable position to sleep, and soon I was frantically adjusting my pillows in every conceivable fashion and angle to obtain at least a little much-need relief.

Fortunately, we already had a big wedge pillow at home. I used the wedge to elevate my head, and this seemed to help a little bit. However, I still experimented with a few regular pillows above and below my back and my legs. For example, placing a pillow between my knees seemed to help, at least for a while. I found that some positions seemed to work for a short time, but were too uncomfortable to provide any sustained relief and rest.

I settled on using the wedge and another large pillow that I borrowed from the couch. The wedge supported my head, and I placed the couch pillow underneath my knees. I had elevated my head and my legs, and lowered my mid-section. Finally, I had a system that allowed me to feel supported and comfortable until my back healed. Now I could catch up on some sleep!

The experience with my back pain has led me to investigate what other types of support pillows have been available. As I had mentioned, we already had a wedge pillow. However, I have discovered that there were may other types of wedge and support pillows on the market, with a large variety of applications.

In addition to bed pillows, there are other products intended for use outside the home. These other uses include car commuting, airplane travel, and the chair at your job. Again, they are designed for the comfort and support of the user. With a small amount of research, you should have little trouble finding a product to suit your needs and price range.

Of course, most pillow are intended to enhance the experience of resting in your own bed, at home. I have already described how pillows aided with my recovery. Other uses include breathing (sleep apnea) and improved circulation. I wish that I had a few of these support pillows while I was down in my back. As a matter of fact, I even found an advertisement for a single, large pillow that accommodated the same head, mid-section, and leg configuration that I finally “designed” with much trial and painful error!
